Partylite Candles
Partylite candles have been around since 1973; they are both well-known and a total secret!
They are best known for their wide array of decorative candle holders. It's pretty much "you name it they have it" when it comes to candle accessories.
What they aren't quite as well known for is their candles. Yes, they do have a good number of items when it comes to shapes an sizes, their fragrance selection is a bit lacking.
Still, if you like the traditional fragrances but want a more unusual candle shape, you might want to check out Partylite candles.
Unique Candle Holders
If there is one thing that Partylite does extremely well, it's in providing all kinds of unique candle holders! I have to admit, they totally intrigue me. Here are some examples I've seen:
- African-themed candle holders. This was really cool -- a figure of a giraffe, and nestled gracefully on its back was a votive holder.
- Reflectors. Remember those "infinity mirrors", where a frame of light seemed to be reflected infinitely in the mirror? The same idea works beautifully for candles.
- Global Fusion. Think multi-colored mirrored surfaces in exotic designs. Lantern candle holders, trays and more.
Naturally, there's plenty more in the way of unique candle holders. But there are also some very nice "essentials", which are standard shapes with a slight twist to make them fresh.
Where to Find Partylite Candles and Holders
It's really pretty easy to find these candles and candle holders. There may even be a distributor in your area!
But in case there isn't, there's always....ebay! Yes, there is a good selection of Partylite on ebay -- you can see the listings below for an idea of what you can find.
Ebay is safe to buy, just remember to check the seller's ratings before bidding (I personally feel comfortable with any seller ratings 99.0 and above).

White Barn Candles
White Barn candles have an interesting history behind them. Originally opened in the 1990's as the Bath & Body Works home stores, the heavy scented candle sales grew enough to merit their own venue.
Thus, the White Barn Candle Company stores were born. They are currently part of the Limited Brands family of shopping.
What's interesting these days is that there are freestanding White Barn stores and those that have a "store within a store" in Bath and Body Works. Fragrances are naturally coordinated between the two brands.
White Barn Candles and Accessories
Naturally, if you have a Bath & Body Works store near you (or maybe even a White Barn store), that would be the place to go.
If you can manage it (and if the store allows it), bring along a handful of coffee beans (unflavored) when you go shopping. Why? Because you can only smell four or five scents before you go on "aroma overload". Smelling some coffee beans clears your senses.
(Be sure to let the store staff know that you will be doing this, so they don't get concerned.)
No White Barns candles near to you? You can peruse the offerings on one of my favorite online "shopping malls" -- ebay. I know, sounds strange but there are plenty of these wonderful candles available. As always, look at the seller's rating before bidding -- 99.0% and up are usually good signs.
Enjoy shopping for your White Barn candles and accessories!
Discount Scented Candles
Discount scented candles tend to be inexpensive for a reason; their fragrance doesn't last very long, and they tend not to be clean-burning. However, there can be times when discount scented candles are the right choice.
Perhaps you're planning a get-together where you want to scent the air with your guest's favorite fragrance. But it's not one of your favorites, so you don't want to spend a lot of money. Inexpensive jar candles may be just what you need.
You're planning to burn several candles for mood lighting, but want just a bare hint of an aroma. Discount scented candles might be just the ticket.
You want some mood lighting but with no scent; perhaps for a special dinner -- a discount pillar candle can fit in well.
Keep in mind that discount (i.e. "cheap") candles can actually be more expensive in the long run; because the fragrance doesn't last long, you have to keep buying them. They also tend to be hot-burning -- meaning they burn up fast, so you have to go out and buy more candles!
In addition, discount scented candles tend to be sooty, meaning it's darkeing your walls, ceilings and even lungs. (Although that's not so much of an issue if you plan to burn these candles outside.)
How to Buy Discount Scented Candles
Unless price is your only consideration, don't buy your discount candles at the dollar store. These tend to burn with a lot of soot, which isn't good for your walls, your home or you.
Watch for sales and discounts of well-known brands, like discount Yankee candles. Perhaps a particular fragrance is being discontinued -- it could go for half-price or even less. Of course the disadvantage is that if you like the scent, you might never see (or smell) it again.
Look for natural candles or soy wax candles; they tend to burn much cleaner. Especially smart buys when you can find them discounted on sale.

Buy Discount Candles Online
Because online retailers don't have the same kind of cost overhead that a brick-and-mortar store does, you can get some good deals. Now it does take a bit of an adventurous spirit, because you can't sniff to check the fragrances. On the other hand, prices can be very good, so you can afford to buy quite a few scents.
Here are a few places where you can buy discount scented candles online.
- Yankee Candle Company has a discount store. You never know what will be in there, and sometimes it's more accessories than actual candles. Still, it's a good place to check every so often.
- Candle Bay carries a discount line called Therepe. If you're in the market for some upscale (Erome) and inexpensive candles at the same time, this is a place to check out. Therepe candles are soy, which means little sooting.
- Discount Candle can be useful if you need a lot of candles and you don't have a lot of money. Just watch out for the soot factor.
Discount scented candles aren't right for every time, but they can be useful. Just keep in mind that if you can find them, brand names with an excellent reputation that happen to be on sale are best. Otherwise, look for soy or natural wax for a minimum of soot.
