Aromatherapy Scents

It's hard to pick the best of the aromatherapy scents -- there are so many that are wonderful!

Aromatherapy Scents With Herbs and CandlesBut different aromas help different issues.  For example, rose is a balancing scent -- when you don't know whether to laugh or cry, rose can bring you back on an even keel.

Naturally aromatherapy with lavender is famous for its relaxing properties.  Whether you're winding down from a difficult day or relaxing before bedtime, lavender can help calm the stresses.

So lets take a look at some various aromatherapy candle fragrances, and how they can help you on a daily basis.

Aromatherapy Candle Fragrances

Aromatherapy has been around for quite some time, and aromatherapy with candles was the natural next step.  The problem has always been finding pure fragances -- for example, lavender that smells like the real thing instead of lavender plus (fill in the blank).

Not that blends aren't great!  There are many, many blends of aromatherapy scents that are truly wonderful.  The only difficulty can be finding a specific scent by itself.

So, included are some complimentary blends -- two or more scents that even when mixed accomplish the same goal.

Aromatherapy Scents

Here are some popular aromatherapy scents that are often available in candle form. Of course they can be enhanced with a drop of the appropriate essential oil into the candle melt pool, once it's been fully formed.

Relaxation and/or Sleep

Use these when you want to wind down from your day, or before preparing for bed, to help you relax and get a good night's sleep.

Lavender, rosewood, neroli, sandalwood, geranium, clary sage, vanilla.

Note: With these fragrances, less is more when it comes to relaxing -- especially lavender and geranium.

Concentration / Focus

Do you ever have days when you just cannot seem to wake up?  When concentration seems to elude you?  You're at work and have an important project that you just can't seem to get your mind around. Try some of these fragrances (even at the office) to get you back on track.

Lemon, orange, lemongrass, rosemary, peppermint, bergamot, eucalyptus.

Stress / Balancing

I mentioned before, there are days when you're not sure if you should laugh or cry.  When you get into one of those moods, these fragrances will help to put you back on an even plane, so you can cope.

Geranium, lavender, roman chamomile, sandalwood, ylang ylang, clary sage.

Memory / Forgetfulness

With so much being stuffed into our brains these days, sometimes it's a wonder we remember anything! However, we do need to guard our memory, especially as we age. Here are some scents to use.

Cypress, lemon, ginger, peppermint, frankincense, rosemary.

These are just a few of the aromatherapy scents that can help you get back on track. Bookmark the page and come back for more updates!

Aromatherapy Versus Candles

Not everyone agrees that aromatherapy using candles is true aromatherapy.

Why?  Because although essential oils can be incorporated into a frangrance, the candle fragrance isn't totally from nature.

True -- pure aromatherapy relies on properties of essential oils other than just fragrance.

But when it comes to scented candles, synthetic fragrances which include essential oils have much more staying power.

And since the whole point of burning the richly scented candles is for their lovely fragrance, who's to say that it still isn't a valid form of therapy?

For an idea of how you can combine candles with traditional aromatherapy see the flameless candles page.

Otherwise, light the candle and wait until the melt pool is fully formed (there's liquid almost the entire top of the candle). Then place a drop of the approrpiate essential oil into the melt pool.

Generally, the essential oil will disperse from the heat before it's burned in the flame.
