About Me
Hi everyone! My name is Gail Nettles, and I am the owner/designer/writer/etc. for The Richly Scented Candle. Here's a little bit about me.
I live in Southeast Florida with my husband David, and our two furry four-legged children -- Blue and Rusty (they are cats) David has lived here in SE Florida almost his whole life, while I've only been here for about 20 years. Growing up I lived in Orlando, and then when to school at the University of Florida in Gainesville.
Some of my hobbies include creating websites, reading, travel, lampworking (making glass beads) and of course -- candles! Some of my friends refer to me as "the candle lady".
I'm also interested in aromatherapy and using essential oils. This has led me to explore the difference between traditional aromatherapy versus candle aromatherapy -- it's quite fascinating!
Candles and Scents
Now I've always loved candles, and I bought them whenever I could find a great combination of scent and longevity. (How long and strong a scent lasted.)
And naturally, I frequently succumbed to the siren call of discount candles at department store, grocery stores, specialty stores...any kind of stores! I was invariably disappointed, except for one brand (which isn't really discount).
Yankee Candle was the best of the regular candles I had come across. The scent lasted a pretty long time, which I liked. Unfortunately, I didn't like most of the Yankee Candle scents -- they were too perfume-y for me. But whenever I found one I liked, I grabbed it and bought it and enjoyed it!
Discovering Gourmet Candles
I came across gourmet candles quite by accident. One day while surfing the internet, I visited a website of a lady by the name of Jackie who owned a gourmet candle business. Although I had no intention of starting a candle business per se, I was intrigued by what I read about the candles themselves.
Intrigued enough that I decided to buy one of the jar candles to try it out. To see if the scents really were true and it was indeed richly scented. What did I have to lose -- I mean, I bought jar candles all the time anyway.
Oh boy, was I ever amazed -- there really was a difference! The French Vanilla actually smelled like real vanilla, and not vanilla perfume.
I decided to join the Candle of the Month club, and get the excellent discount (a new scent is introduced each month). While I never know what the new scent will be, it certainly is exciting to get my package!
Then I decided to read up more about scented candles in general and couldn't find a whole lot of information on the internet. After a lot of research, I decided that others might benefit from what I've discovered -- therefore The Richly Scented Candle was born.
